Our Story

Our Story

The Asisat Oshoala Academy (AOA) is designed to provide access to football and life skills for marginalized schoolgirls in Nigeria and the rest of the African continent. Since inception, the Academy has strategically combined sports and life skills education with vocational training to inspire and empower young girls to embark on a journey of self-discovery, cultivating a deep sense of self-awareness, confidence, and purpose, while equipping them with the skills, mindset, and opportunities necessary to emerge as compassionate, visionary leaders in their communities and beyond. Over 20,000 young children have benefitted from its community intervention programmes through schools, and over 100 girls have gone through the Academy’s football programme to date. With its strong focus on sports and education for girl-child development, it has drawn support from key partners like Nike and Women Win, as well as the New Era Foundation and Emzor Group, and other local and international partners, which demonstrates recognition for the impact of the Academy’s initiatives.

Our Strategic Goals and Objectives

Holistic Empowerment

Holistic Empowerment

We are creating and implementing comprehensive programs emphasizing awareness building, educational advocacy, and comprehensive support structures to enable girls to achieve their full potential. Our SHE Plays event, School Project, Fit for Challenge, and other initiatives are aimed at increasing our social impact, and drive a holistic agenda for girl-child development in Nigeria. Our programs have shown a 14-percentage point increase in participants believing in equal treatment for boys and girls.
Football Opportunities

Football Opportunities

We have provided football-related opportunities to foster self-expression and personal development. This includes developing a world-class football programme for girls aged 10-18, with a structured curriculum, experienced coaches, and regular competitive matches, strengthening our reputation as a premier "girls football academy in Nigeria. A testament to our success here is Janet Akekoromowei, who was selected to represent Nigeria at U-17 and U-20 levels, from the Academy. She has gone on to sign for 2024 Women’s Federation Cup runners-up, Nassarawa Amazons, and is now at 2025 NWFL winners, Bayelsa Queens
Capacity Building with Targeted Skills

Capacity Building with Targeted Skills

Equip girls with vocational and academic proficiency, instilling self-assurance for success across various life domains. This involves specialized training in areas like STEM, financial literacy, communication skills, and critical thinking. The Asisat Oshoala Academy aims to integrate vocational training in leadership, communication, and entrepreneurship into its curriculum and partner with vocational institutions for specialized courses. A testament to this is the 5 academy players (and 20+ others) who received vocational scholarships and are now professionals.

We are EPIIC!

Our Values sets us apart and guides our operations on why we started out in the first place and these values are communicated to anyone who comes throuh our doors

Empowerment

This value represents the core mission of the AOA, which is to empower girls (and other beneficiaries) to realize their full potential. Through sports and education, we aim to provide girls with the tools and opportunities they need to become confident, capable individuals who can shape their own destinies.

Partnerships

Collaboration is a fundamental principle, as we recognize that working with like-minded individuals and organizations is crucial to achieving our vision. By forming partnerships, we aim to create a network of support that benefits not only the AOA, but also the girls we aim to help.

Inclusivity

Inclusivity is at the heart of our work. Regardless of a girl's background or circumstances, the AOA is committed to providing an inclusive environment where every girl can thrive. We believe in diversity and equal opportunity for all.

Integrity

Maintaining honesty, transparency, and ethical conduct is a cornerstone of AOA's activities and relationships. Our stakeholders can trust that our actions align with our values, fostering credibility and trust.

Community

The power of community is essential to our mission. At the AOA, we understand that working collaboratively with partners and stakeholders is key to achieving your goals. By building a strong community, we can collectively drive positive change and sustainable development.
